It was the summer after seventh grade ... maybe 8th ... irrelevant detail. Regardless, a few friends and I decided it would be super amazing to get season passes to Six Flags in town and, you know, go a bunch.
Very early in the summer we were waiting in line to go on a wooden roller coaster. The line weaved around underneath the ride before you went up stairs to the ride itself. Before getting in line we had paid way too much for frozen lemonade and, therefore, had loose change in our shorts. Knowing we would soon lose these pennies anyway we decided to play a game.
We began flicking the pennies at a trashcan that was about fifteen feet away. There was also a chain link fence between us and the can. We quickly ran out of change and flicked a couple rocks at the can before it was time to move along in line. (Side note ... this trashcan was completely isolated and there were no people anywhere near all of this)
So we ride the sweet ride and when we are finished we are stopped by security. Evidently a kid had been plunked in the head by a rock thrown by someone in a yellow shirt. My friend was wearing a yellow shirt. Combine this with us naively admitting to tossing the coins at the trash can and we were hauled up to a windowless office.
The security guard called someone, who he claimed was the cops, and started referring to us saying "this one has been smoking dope" and what not. He then had us call our parents to pick us up. He told us we were being banned from Six Flags for the rest of the summer, took our passes, and forced us to sign a paper saying we agreed. When you are 13 or so and you think the cops are getting called on you and you have no idea what you did wrong you sign that paper to go home.
Our parents were cool and understood we did nothing wrong (we were good lil boys). In the end we got them to let us back into the park and give us back our passes after one month. I went one time later that summer to get a new pass and go to the park, but I found myself bitterly upset at the park. I think I have been back once or twice since then.
Moral of the story ... stand up for yourself when a cop wannabe tries to exert his power. Even if you are too young to drive.
