People really suck. Not that it is any sort of surprise to me. However, there were some severe reminders of why I generally am not a people person ... even as I long for a career in which I will do everything in my power to help them if they are sick or injured.
Yesterday I did a preceptorship in the ER from midnight until 8am. What I saw was some of the most ridiculous seemingly random acts of violence. I don't really feel like this is a proper forum to necessarily go into any details about what sort of reasons people had to be treated, but there is one that I will briefly mention. A 51 year-old woman was pulled from her vehicle and pistol whipped by an unknown assailant. It was not a robbery. Not even evidently premeditated. They did not know each other. Just 100% random. People suck.
That being said, I really enjoyed my time in the ER and cannot wait until classes are over and I can start rotations.
