Look around your world pretty baby. Is it everything you hoped it'd be?

My sick in high school story, abridged version:

So back in the day I had a fun habit of getting "mystery illnesses" (explained in unabridged version next week?) best described as mono-type. Well one day when they ruled out mono my high school's athletic director saw me trudging to practice. He started to joke about me being late and being sick was no excuse when he stopped and got very serious.

"Son, you are yellow ... and I don't mean scared" he said to me in his drawl.

I went and looked in a mirror. He was right. My eyes were yellow. My skin looked like it had been attacked by a highlighter. I was saying hello to jaundice.

Turns out I have a genetic syndrome called Gilbert's syndrome which causes an elevated bilirubin count which can lead to jaundice during stressed times such as illness. Allegedly it has no real symptoms and therefore is not a disease. I, and many others with Gilbert's, tend to disagree.

Regardless, I got some blood work done and there was my elevated bilirubin count circled with the word "Gilbert" handwritten next to it. I smiled.
