Was it you who spoke the words that things would happen but not to me

The person of the week this week is Elena Delle Donne. She was one of the, if not the, best women's basketball recruits last year. She signed to play at UCONN, spent one day at summer school there, and left the school and basketball behind. She is now at the University of Deleware which is twenty minutes from home. She played volleyball and is happier than ever.

She gets this spot because she did something that is very hard to do. She was honest with herself and made a decision that was very difficult. Sometimes in life you have to stop lying to yourself, doing things because others expect you to, and living someone else's dreams. Sometimes you need to do what needs to be done.

I applaud Ms. Donne and wish her nothing but the best. She has inspired me for this new year. Good luck to her. Good luck to me. Good luck to us all.
