A Salute

This is Phil Packer. Mr. Packer just finished his first marathon. Before that he rowed the English Channel. Next month he will climb El Capitan in California (a 3,000 foot vertical rock formation).

If you think Phil Packer is more man than you will ever be ... you have no idea how right you are.

Phil Packer is a former British soldier who was injured in Iraq. He lost feeling and control of his legs and bowel and urinary control. He is tackling this extreme physical endeavors to raise money for wounded soldiers.

He completed the marathon on crutches. Just being on crutches when he had been told he would never walk again would be enough for most people. Instead, Packer crutched two miles a day for 13 days to complete the London Marathon. If his doctor hadn't limited him to two miles a day, I am sure he would have gone faster.

In times when most athletic "heroes" are doing nothing but letting us down, it is heart warming to see what a real hero looks like.
