Many people love to nap. Either under 20 minutes or 2 hours are the guidelines I think most people are told to live by. Otherwise you get caught in weird REM cycles and can wake up feeling worse. I for one do not nap. "Naps" turn into 8 hours unless someone wakes me up. Alarms do little to detract me. However, I must rave about my "morning naps".
What is a morning nap you ask? Simple. Have you ever woken up and felt awful. Maybe you hit the wrong time in your sleep cycle or had a bad night rest. But you look at the clock and realize you have to get up and go do something? Not me. I utilize morning naps.
Every morning I set 4 alarms. I set one for when I want to get up, one five minutes later than that, one when I have to get up, and then I set an alarm for 25 minutes before I want to get up. Sometimes if I am feeling great I go ahead and start my day. This is amazingly rare, I usually morning nap no matter what. Once I shut off the first alarm I reset it to go off one minute before I have to get up so I can lay in bed for an extra minute.
So I wake up 25 minutes before I want to get up, turn off the alarm, take a minute or so to fall back asleep, then nap for twenty minutes and wake up to a new alarm. I generally lounge in bed until I have to get up and feel consistently better about the day than I do when I first wake up.
Try it someday and let me know what you think.
