Bringing the heat...

The results of my fun sleep study are in and they lead to more questions than answers:

  • Sleep stage dysfunction with absence of slow wave sleep
  • Further evaluation of patient for hypersomnia is warranted
  • Further evaluation of patient's daytime sleepiness is warranted
So basically, I don't go into slow wave sleep, which is also known as "deep sleep". The few things I have seen that increase slow wave sleep are alcohol, warmer temperatures, certain drugs, exercise (by increasing body temperature), and possibly potassium. However, I don't think any of those can create slow wave sleep where there is no slow wave sleep. So I am just in a waiting game until I see the sleep specialist in a week.

A type of hypersomnia is still in play ... possibly idiopathic, but at this point I have stopped trying to guess. Same thing with the daytime sleepiness, though that is possibly due to the lack of SWS. Maybe the hypersomnia is as well.

All I can do now is hope to get answers next week, try to learn something for the first time in a month at school, and remember that things could be a lot worse. I am not in a hospital and I am not dying. I thank my lucky stars for that. Things obviously could be better but it is wise not to complain when so many are less fortunate.

As for tonight? I exercised, jacked up my thermostat, and plan on getting wasted here in a few minutes. Okay, I am not going to get wasted, but I will crank the heat.
