The best pitcher in MLB plays in Kansas City. His name is Zack Greinke and a few years ago he walked away from the game for a few months.
What makes Greinke so amazing is his savant like ability on the mound and is social anxiety disorder. He has been a top phenom, out of the game, and the best pitcher in the league so far in 2009. All of this at the ripe age of 25.
The thing that I love about his story is not only how good he is and what he has gone through, but the stories of how he used to play around on the mound to keep himself from boredom on the mound. While it was part of his social anxiety problems, it also allowed him to develop into the amazing pitcher he is: absolute control of speed and location.
You don't often see stories like this in sports. Someone who has overcome so much in such a short time and with their entire future in front of them. Here's to you Zack and the Royals. Good luck with everything.
