One thing that became abundantly clear since Friday is this: I hate poor winners and poor losers. This goes to the local college sports fans -- not all of them, just the ones craving attention-- here in the Commonwealth.
Holy cow your team is doing well, please inform everyone in a 1000 mile radius how awesome your team is doing. Then when they lose, instead of being happy for the great year they had please complain and yell at your rival's who have come out of the woodwork to laugh at your arrogant ass.
How cow your team is sucking mightily right now. Yell at the coach, AD, players, whoever. They need your discipline! Please list a bunch of people who don't ever want to coach at your school because of a fan base like you (and their teams are pretty good right now, thanks) that you think will be the next coach. If your rival is doing well, bide your time. Only one team wins a title. Once they lose laugh at them and remind them that not making the tournament and doing anything but winning it all is the same overall response.
Scholars and Gentlemen abound.
This doesn't just relate to this year. I can trace this back to grade school. It isn't just the Commonwealth. I can trace this to other places I have lived as well. Maybe if I had never moved from the state of my birth, I would be just as annoying. However, moving at a young age and being the only one cheering on my team meant one thing: no one cared what I thought. I learned to shut up and enjoy my team's season no matter how they ended up doing. Disappointed at time? Of course, but never angry. Happy at time? Of course, but never boastful.
That doesn't make me a "good fan" and others "bad fans". Those "bad fans" are the rabid fans that make up most of a fan base and revenue. They are necessary. I just prefer not to hear them when they are at their extremes.
People ask me all the time being in the Commonwealth: who do you like better the state or the city team. I answer: Whose fans are the least annoying right now? Usually I can decide ... not so sure today.
